and we want to get jobs in america. >> it sounded to us yesterday like there was a willingness by the -- by congressman boehner to go to the president's position of keeping middle class tax relief inplace. >> all right. that's what happened over the weekend. msnbc political analyst richard wolffe joins us from the white house north lawn. when we hear this, sounds like it's couched in a quiet way by john boehner. is this really a signal for compromise? a lot of folks asking that. >> reporter: well, that's a great question. it's campaign season, okay? so there was some signaling of compromise, boehner has said that, in fact, he is just trying to take a talking point away from the white house. there's all of this positioning going on. the point is he's trying to make himself look reasonable to the electorate, and in doing so he has just undermined what has been actually a very effective republican strategy for the last two years or so, which is so oppose t obama white house on significant measures, on big measures like tax cuts, and fiscal policy in tgeneral. ey are trying to say

's operated as his father's pawn. he's accusing him of conning us to elect him president. what do you make of newt, howard? >> i've been covering newt for many years. he's a bomb thrower. he's a guy who knows the weak point to attack. what's interesting to me here is he feels free to say anything at this point. it's a kind of free fire zone within the conservative movement. and newt, who's always trying tu say the most outrageous thing and that goes back many, many years, now has moved from saying outrageous things about the ethics of the house members in the democratic leadership 15, 18 years ago, to saying these thin about a man that newt himself has no evidence for what he's alleging here.te he really has absolutely none. his facts are wrong. as mr. weigepointed out on his page and i'm just really not surprised, but kind of depressed by it. >> david, you covered this kind of spiritual territory. ideological territory. he's accusing as basically a zombie. saying his father hated the british white guys. his son is kind of a zombie like figure. in fact governed by a ghost. this is the kind
